Capacity Building and Skill Enhancement Training

Three Days Orientation Programme on Geriatric Care:

For better understanding three days orientation Programme for functionaries working in Sr.CH was planned as per the NISD guideline. The training programme was given the sight to all the participants for further better implementation of the project. The training programme was started from 21st October to 23rd October, 2019 at RRTC Training Hall, Plot No- HIG-77, Lumbini Vihar, Shailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar-751021. There are 25 participants are participating from different Sr.CHs with capacity of Superintendent, Counsellor and Social Worker. The training was facilitated by experienced resource persons/ trainers in the field of aged care, using various tools and training methods as per specific modules of Help Age India and training module of Geriatric Care followed by daily evaluation / feedback and review by the participants as well as the facilitators helped in the improvement of the next day training.

All the trainees nominated by the respective Sr.CHs were assembled on the training hall of RRTC for registration to the said training program that took around half an hour for updating & completion. Then the formal inauguration which was done by lighting the lamp by Mr. Nageswar Pattnaik, Senior Journalist and one of the resource person of the training programme along with Mrs. Sharmillee Parida, Joint Secretary, NRCWD. Mrs.Parida welcomed all participants and addressed the participants about the aims and objectives of this orientation Program and gave suggestion to the participants that, if they have any doubt during the facilitation, they can clarify it from the resource person. After completion of this training programme you should know about the quality of life of the Senior Citizens.

Then the introductory session was started where all Participants introduced themselves and shared their opinion about the training Program. Some of the participants told that this type of training program is totally new for him/her. Before leaving the venue, the joint secretary, NRCWD advised the Participants for participating actively in the training program.

Mr. Akash Kumar Parida, Coordinator of RRTC thanked all the participants for their in time reporting, active participation and response. Ms. Basanti Behera, Eminent Social Worker highlighted some major problems on senior citizens. Then coordinator of RRTC Informed all the Participants about the programme schedule which will be learnt during the 03 days training period.

Joint Secretary of NRCWD, Coordinator and Supportive Staffs of RRTC, Odisha was facilitated the process. After last session of the third day, the valedictory session was started where, Mrs. Lita Praharaj, Project Coordinator of NRCWD, along with Mr. Akash Parida, coordinator of RRTC and Mrs. Sharmilee Parida, Joint Secretary, NRCWD graced the occasion as chief guest. In the onset, all the participants were requested to give their feedbacks about the training programme. Majority of the participants spoke positively about the learning they received from the orientation programme. In addition to that they also promised to execute their learning in practical field at their respective Senior Citizen Homes for betterment of geriatric care activities. Mrs. Parida congratulated all the participants and distributed certificates as an evidence of completing the three days training course successfully. The training programme was giving vote of thanks by RRTC team.

Three Days Training Programme on Dementia Care Management:

The training program was conducted after evaluation of the training need assessment of Sr.CHs run by the different NGOs. The training program was designed as per the need of the Sr.CH staffs, so it will help them for further implemented project as per the guideline of NISD and MSJ&E. The Three days Training Programme on Dementia Care Management for functionaries working in Sr.CHs successfully completed with support of resource persons selected by RRTC. The training programme was started from 18th to 20th November, 2019 at Lumbini Vihar, Shailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar-21. The training programme was attended by 25 participants out of whom only one was male and rest 24 were females. The participants were from different Sr.CHs with capacity Only for Nurse (Working staff of Sr.CHs) across the state of Odisha. The training was facilitated by experienced resource persons/ trainers in the field of both Geriatric and Dementia Care, using various tools and training methods as per specific training modules of Help Age India and NISD, MSJ&E, Govt. of India followed by daily evaluation / feedback and review by the participants as well as the facilitators helped in the improvement of the next day training.

After completion of this training programme, you should know about the quality of life of the Senior Citizens and how to preserve the Rights andmdignity of the senior citizens with Alzheimer’sn Dementia living Senior Citizen Homes.

Ms. Parida congratulated all the participants and distributed certificates accompanied by two resource persons namely Ms. Geeta Praharaj and Mr. Satish Senapati as an evidence of completing the three days training course successfully. One Day Workshop on Diet and Nutrition for functionaries working in Sr.CHs:

As per the instruction of NISD, the one day workshop on “Diet and Nutrition” was organized by the RRTC. This was the 1st workshop for cooks by the RRTC (IPSr.C), Odisha in the current year. The workshop was facilitated by experienced resource persons/ trainers in the field of Dietician and Doctor, using various tools and training methods as per specific training modules of NISD, MSJ&E, Govt. of India followed by feedback of the workshop and review by the participants as well as the facilitators helped in the improvement of the next workshop.

The day started with the registration of participants following the formal inauguration which was done by lighting the lamp by Mr. Sukanta Kumar Parida, Secretary of NRCWD along with Mrs. Sharmillee Parida, Joint Secretary of NRCWD. Mr. Parida welcomed all participants and addressed the participants about the aims and objectives of this workshop and gave suggestion to the participants that, if they have any doubt during the facilitation, they can clarify it from the resource person. After completion of this workshop, you should know about how and why we give diet and nutrition food to the Senior Citizens who are stayed in home for senior citizens. The joint Secretary of the organization told that, this is the 1st workshop in Odisha for cooks working in Senior citizen Homes. You are the 1st group of participants for RRTC of this workshop. I hope you should participate actively in the workshop and whatever you learnt here; you may implement it in your citizen homes.

Ms. Parida congratulated all the participants and distributed certificates accompanied by two resource persons namely Ms. Geeta Praharaj and Mr. Padma Charan Behera as an evidence of participants for participating in the workshop successfully. The programme was giving vote of thanks by RRTC team.

One Day Awareness Programme on Issues of Senior Citizens for PRIs

The one day Awareness programme was organized at ASRA Training Hall,Singarpur, Nuapola of Jagatsinghpur District on 23.09.2019. The gathering remarked that the Awareness Programme is the endeavour of formed at which aims at addressing the Issues of senior citizens” affecting older persons of the country. The coordinator of RRTC shared that, through lectures and other events will disseminate the awareness about elderly Abuse and provide counselling and requisite help to those in need. He also stressed that others can only advise and render support to the Abuser, but it is the person himself who has to muster courage and get out of the own problem through acquiring knowledge in the above said awareness programme. The inaugural ceremony was started by the Secretary of ASRA, with the presence of some staffs of the ASRA, RRTC’s staffs and all the PRI members present in the programme. At first, the Secretary of the ASRA told about the importance and objective of the meeting, then he requested for the proceeding of the programme. Then the organizer started their sessions of the programme. The RRTC arranged four resource persons who discussed about introduction of aging, Govt. Schemes & Programmes for Senior Citizens, maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens Act, 2007 and role of PRIs towards caring of Senior Citizens etc. in PPT presentation through visual aids. In this occasion, Mr. Mahendra Kumar Dhal, coordinator of Help Age India joined as one of the resource person and elaborately discussed about Maintenance Act, 2007.

The Members of PRIs of different blocks of Jagatsinghpur district and the media persons participated in the Programme. Nearly 40 numbers of participants were joined in the programme. In addition to the programme, four types of IEC distributed among the participants to create awareness among them. Among others Ms. Basanti Behera, Umakanta Swain, Tapas Kumar Khuntia, Rabindra Kumar Mallick,Niranjan Swain, Pramod Kumar Mohapatra, Dipti Ranjan Sahu and Ratnakar Behera present in the Programme. The staffs of the NRCWD coordinated the Programme fruitful. Lastly, Mr. Satish Kumar Senapati, RRTC, Bhubaneswar gave vote of thanks to all.

School Sensitization Programme

Fifteen number of one day Sensitization Program on Intergenerational bonding in schools for students from 6th to 10th class were organized with a collaborative support of National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Government of India. The major objectives of this sensitization programme were to create awareness among the young students understanding of the unifying roles played by both generations in creating a stable society and to help dismantle significant barriers across age, gender and cultural differences to build relationships in which they work with and learn from each other. And also to use intergenerational approach to involve families, communities and other support system to create healthy young people, strong families, responsible communities & a robust nation. Keeping the above objectives in focus, a ‘One Day Sensitization Programme’ was conducted from 24th September, 2019 to 21st November, 2019 in different school Premises of Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh Districts in Odisha.

College Sensitization Programme

Three number of one day Sensitization Program on Intergenerational Bonding in Colleges for young College students was organized with a collaborative support of National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Government of India.

The major objectives of this sensitization programme were to create awareness among the young College students understanding of the unifying roles played by both generations in creating astable society and to help dismantle significant barriers across age, gender and cultural differences to build relationships in which they work with and learn from eachother. And also to use intergenerational approach to involve families, communities and other support system to create healthy young people, strong families, responsible communities & a robust nation. Keeping the above objectives in focus, a ‘One Day Sensitization Programme’ was conducted from 31stOctober, 2019 to 29th November, 2019 in three different College Premises of Khurdha, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh Districts in Odisha.

Observance of International Day of Older Person(IDOP)-2019

The Regional Resource & Training Centre (RRTC), Odisha run by National Resources centre for Women Development (NRCWD) sponsored by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E), Government of India organized WALKATHON, HEALTH CAMP, PUBLIC AWARENESS MEETING AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMES on the occasion of observance of International Day of Older Persons (IDOP)-2019 on Friday (11thOctober, 2019) at East Coast Railway Auditorium, Rail Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. The Deputy Director(Trg. & OA)of National Institute of Social Defence(NISD), Govt. of India Dr. H.C Sridhara Channakeshava Ranga Reddy and the Deputy Secretary of SSEPD Department Sri Ambika Prasad Pattnaik flagged off the walkathon (mass) Rally in Press square of Bhubaneswar at 8.00 A.M. About 1200 participants including senior citizens, students, social activists, volunteers, govt. officials, chief functionaries of NGOs participated in the walkathon (mass) rally. After flagged off, the walkathon marched ahead from press square to rail auditorium showing placards and shouting slogans to create awareness among the people about various issues of senior citizens.

The secretary of NRCWD, Mr. Sukanta Kumar Parida welcomed all the participants and highlighted the importance of the programme. The welcome dance performed by special dance group. Hon’ble Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly Dr. Surjya Narayan Patro joined as a chief guest and inaugurated the meeting. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Guest urged everyone to take care of the interest of the elderly people. He also said that the elderly persons should keep them active. Padmashree awardee cum scientist Dr. Prafulla Kumar Jena joined as chief speaker advised elderly persons to consult doctors at regular intervals, remain active and do their daily chores themselves. Ms. Upma Srivastava, Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E), Govt. of India , Dr. H.C Sridhara Channakeshava Ranga Reddy, Deputy Director(Trg. & OA), NISD and Sj. Bhaskar Sarma, I.A.S, commissioner cum Secretary, Dept. of SSEPD, govt. of odisha joined as guest of honours where as Mr. Nageswar Pattnaik, Sr. Journalist and advisor of NRCWD presided over the programme. On this occasion, Ms. Srivastava said to audience the central govt. would adopt a policy for the older persons and also showing vedio clips regarding the person who works welfare of the senior citizens and also get Bayojstha sanman-2109 at Newdelhi from Odisha. And Dr. Reddy spoke about the different governmental schemes for senior citizens. The inaugural session winded up with vote of thanks given by Mrs. Sharmillee Parida, Joint secretary of NRCWD. The cultural programmes performed by Nrutyashree dance group, Bhubaneswar. They performed 4 items namely Mangalacharan, Pallavi, Abhinaya and duet Sambalpuri Dhap etc. The artists who were performed the cultural programme were Priya Kumbhar, Ankita Behera, Sandhyarani Pradhan, Suchitra Pradhan, Saumyashree Tripathy, Prasant Kumar Bhaina, Dusmant Kumar Nayak. And all the artists were felicitated with performance certificates by Deputy Director of NISD Dr. H.C Sridhara Channakeshava Ranga Reddy. On this occasion the organizer also felicitated Nrutyaguru Dr. Manoj Kumar Behera with certificate and bouquet.

After that the technical session conducted by six panellists and elaborately discussed about various issues of senior citizens. Among others Lt. Col Alok Palei, NCC directorate, Odisha, Ms. Jharana Swain, Counsellor Family Court, Mr. Dilip Kumar Routray, Addl. Secretary, Govt. of Odisha and Ms. Bharati Chakra, state head, help age of India took part in the programme and gave their opinions about the theme of the programme i.e “The Journey to Age Equality”.

In addition to that, the health check up was organized by the organizer for the senior citizens by the doctors namely Dr. Soumyanu Tripathy, Orothopaedic, Dr. Om Mishra, Medicine, Dr. Samarendra Dash, Orthodontics, Dr. Suranjana Hazarika, BDs, Dr. Priyanka Panigraghi , six interns and Sri Gauranga Sahoo, Pharmacists. They all were come from KIIMs, Bhubaneswar. They basically checked Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar test for Diabetics of the senior citizens and distributed medicines in free of costs. Most of the people have suffered from diabetics and some people have High and low blood pressure. Some Senior Citizens have joint pains etc. In addition to the programme, two types of IEC distributed among the participants to create awareness among them.

Among others Basanti Behera, Lita Praharaj, Akash Parida, Pravati Majhi, and Mr. Satish Kumar Senapati, Jagyanjyoti Behera, Nirakar Das, Prerana Das, Ruchi M Singh, Geeta Praharaj, Dushyant Meher, Sudhakar Biswal, Bharat Kumar GC present in the Programme and coordinated the entire programme fruitful. Lastly, the coordinator of RRTC, Bhubaneswar gave vote of thanks to all.

Networking and Advocacy

The RRTC maintains a good established network with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E) and the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD). In addition to this, the RRTC has a regular contact and coordination with the Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of Odisha and Health related departments. Similarly, the CBOs, voluntary agencies, police, NCC wings, NSS Wings, academicians, social scientists, Social Activists, PRIs, Chief functionaries of Senior Citizen Associations doctors and human right activists are in good touch with the RRTC.

Documentation of IEC and Resource Materials

The RRTC has developed various materials for the dissemination of information. Among them leaflets, brochures and posters are the ones which are published by the RRTC for the use of trainees, resource persons and general public. The materials were written both in English and Odia, so that it will be easily understandable to all.

Documentation and Computerization.

The RRTC (IPSr.C) maintains all its documents systematically in the digital process. The RRTC is well equipped with desktops where the data has been stored. The web system of E-Annudan Portal prescribed by the MSJ&E is also adopted by the RRTC and all Sr.CHs to keep all the detailed information of the beneficiaries of Sr.CHs and other documents or records of the Senior Citizen Homes for assessing GIA quickly.
